According to researchers, changes in lifestyle by stopping smoking and alcohol consumption can indeed reduce the risk of fertility problems in men, but the difference is not too big.
In the study, researchers from the University of Manchester, University of Sheffield, and the University of Alberta in Canada involving a group of men who have fertility problems. The findings indicate that lifestyle factors only slightly affect fertility problems in men. The report said the study has not explored the reasons why people were having fertility problems.
In these findings, the researchers found no association between motility (motility) sperm with smoking, alcohol consumption, drug use, and being overweight. While the use of tight underwear has been associated with reduced sperm motility.
In the study, researchers recruited 2249 men who underwent fertility treatment in 14 clinics around the UK. These men have been trying to get a baby with her partner for 12 months. Participants fill out questionnaires about the background and lifestyle as well as provide a semen sample for testing the health and swim speed.
Results showed that about 40 of the 100 men have unhealthy sperm quality. Interestingly, they are very rarely smoke, drink alcohol, use drugs, and do not have excess weight than the group of men with normal sperm counts.
As published in the journal Human Reproduction, the decrease in sperm quality of men turned out to be a habit of wearing tight underwear.
Previous studies have suggested that wearing tight underwear can slow down sperm production by increasing testicular temperature
